Monstera Burle Marx Flame
Monstera Burle Marx Flame is a true collector’s item and a statement piece for any plant enthusiast. Its leaves are smaller and more deeply dissected than those of the classic Monstera Deliciosa, often resembling flames, hence the name. The Burle Marx Flame is a hybrid plant that was created by crossing the Monstera Dilacerata with the Philodendron Insulare. This plant was found in Burle Marx’s collection (unknown origin) in Rio de Janeiro and introduced to cultivation from there. The name is a combination of these two aspects of the story behind this cultivar.
This Monstera is also very easy to care for, as long as it has moist and warm conditions. The plant has a vining habit and often grows entwined in and around itself, with new leaves and vines sometimes growing through the holes in existing leaves. This can lead to leaves tearing which gives the plant a shabby chic rather that pristine appeal.
Place the Monstera in a semi shady or light spot, in filtered sunlight. Make sure the potting soil is always mildly moist, but not wet. It’s best to water the plant regularly, and to give small amount of water each time, just enough to moisten the potting soil. We also recommend regularly misting the leaves to maintain a high humidity.
