Alocasia Lauterbachiana
Purple Sword
The Alocasia Lauterbachiana is a fun aroid variety as the underside of the leaves will take on a purplish hue with maturity. It is an easy to care for type of elephant ear plant that is mainly collected for its unique sword shaped foliage. The leaves are narrow-shaped and decorated with scalloped waves that find their way to the edges. These plants can get some height to them if grown in ideal conditions and have been noted to have leaves in excess of 2′ in length!
Ensure optimal growth for your plant by installing it in a temperate place with no direct sun exposure. It is easy to maintain and you only have to water spray it on a regular basis.
Hailing from New Guinea and the Bismarck Archipelago, it’s a hybrid that has become a fairly popular ornamental houseplant. A striking and beautiful houseplant, it is defined by its large green leaves with a deep-purple underside and quite sturdy stems. It is a fleshy evergreen that grows from underground corms. These plants rarely bloom, however, and are grown primarily for their foliage.
Alocasia is a genus of broad-leaved rhizomatous or tuberous perennial flowering plants from the family Araceae. There are 79 species native to tropical and subtropical Asia to Eastern Australia and widely cultivated elsewhere.
