‘Black Prince’ Rubber Plant or Ficus Elastica Burgundy has very dark green glossy leaves, the stems and underside of the leaves have a burgundy tone. It is one of the best air purifying plants. It is great at removing toxins from the air, and will survive infrequent watering and low light.
Not only does it purify the indoor air but also regulates the humidity level of air conditioned rooms. It is a very popular ornamental plant from the Ficus genus. This is one of the few houseplants that can take direct sunlight. But do not place it from low light to direct sunlight. They will get scorched so move them gradually.
For the indoor grower looking for a tree type plant species with attractive foliage which can grow from 1ft to over 8ft tall, this is an excellent choice. In its natural habitat it grows over 30 metres tall, however, the varieties grown indoors are a much more manageable height. The Ficus Elastica Burgundy is all about having a small tree indoors with broad shiny attractive leaves.
When it is about 1 – 2ft tall it’s well suited sitting as a centrepiece on a table, on a shelf, or on a windowsill, but once it begins to grow above 3ft it looks great standing next to the television area or near door entrances. Once the plant begins to mature and grow in height it’s common to train and support the trunk and branches by staking or tying them back to keep them growing upright.
Like other Anthuriums it also doesn’t like direct sunlight and the leaves can be burned. Keep in bright indirect light and well draining media. It doesn’t need much care but while doing so always think about the Amazon rain forest. This plant requires a lot of humidity to grow well. That’s why it is better to place this plant with other indoor plants.
