Clerodendrum Smithianum
Chains of Glory Plant is a winter blooming ornamental flowering plant. It is a great subject for hanging baskets or grown as a standard, it often has two flowering periods during the winter season. It has has an unusual blooming habit. Clusters of pure white, light bulb like blooms dangle from pendant shafts. The plant itself is a fine woody ornamental reaching 10 feet at maturity, as a house or patio plant it can easily be maintained at three to four feet in height. These are very healthy plants with well established root systems.
Flowering racemes hang down a foot and a half or more and usually arrive in the depth of winter. Do not prune after the height of summer so as to not disrupt the blooming cycle. As a houseplant, it is recommended that it be pruned after its winter blooming to keep it a more manageable size. Grow this cascading variety in full sun under moderate temperature. Clerodendrum Smithianum is actually a shrub or small, multi-stemmed tree native to Sri Lanka and the Andaman Islands that can grow up to ten feet tall.
