Why you'll love this
Flame Violet, commonly known as Episcia Cupreata, is grown for its colorful textured leaves and small but pretty flowers.
Flame violet – episcia cupreata
Flame Violet is a very attractive trailing plant native to Central and South America, Brazil, and the West Indies. It has beautiful eye-catching colourful textured leaves in green, purple, silver colours and small but very pretty flowers.
The Episcia Cupreata has never become as popular as its close relative the African Violet because they require more care. Episcias grow in a very unique manner. Each plant sends out runners called stolons which trail over the edge of the container or across the soil in the pot. New plants are propagated from these runners. This is a beautiful unique houseplant.
Episcia ‘selby’s best’
You can expect bright flowers to appear in spring and continue through fall. Dainty, tubular flowers rise above the foliage and are typically red, but may be available in orange, pink or yellow. They flare out at the tips like trumpets and are sometimes fringed at the edges. Deep in the center of the trumpet is a yellow eye.
Episcia is a genus of flowering plants in the African violet family, Gesneriaceae. The ten species it contains are native to the tropical regions of Central and South America.
