Known to be hardy and grows aggressively this Krishna Kamal or Passiflora Vitifolia is a real winner. It is a small vine that trends to grow in all directions and therefore looks best in natural and informal plantings.

The flowers of Passiflora Vitifolia are fairly fragrant and would be a great vine to have near heavily trafficked parts of your garden. The green fruit also tends to have a stronger floral scent to it than other edible fruiting passionflower.

Passion flower are deciduous perennial flowering plants with large leaves, serrated and have typically 3-5 lobes. Its flower blooms one by one beginning at the oldest part of the vine and proceed sequentially along its length and flowers are showy, 2.5″ diameter, fringed flowers having white or purple petals and sepals and a central crown of pinkish-purple filaments. Flowers bloom in summer and are fragrant. Fleshy, egg-shaped, edible fruit is called maypop that usually appears in July and mature to a yellowish colour in fall.

It is important to note, expect passionflowers to typically die back over winter and grow back each spring. The vines can handle some training but prefer to grow freely and sprawl; compact growth tends to inhibit flowering and fruiting. They can grow in half-day to full sun.
