Ground Orchid
Ground Orchid is hardy terrestrial plant that produces small showy flowers and has attractive pleated green foliage that dies back in winter. This hardy species bring classic orchid flower forms to the garden. Some of the blossoms appear individually, like the lady slipper orchids, and some appear in spikes, like bletilla. Orchid flower hues among the hardy types vary from white, to pink, to bronze, to red. There are also yellow, purple and greenish blooms.
These stunning plants do well in the ground, so they’re well-suited as a bedding plant in very warm environments. They make a striking landscape statement with their tall spikes of brightly coloured flowers that bloom almost continually throughout. These plants will grow to 2 feet tall and will tolerate light shade to some full sunlight. These are terrestrial plants, which means it developed in the soil instead of in the air on tree branches. A deep mulch will help keep roots cool and hold moisture in the soil. If you live in a warm environment, ground orchids can do well in your flower beds almost year round. You can grow them in containers and bring them indoors.
