Ficus Lyrata, also known as fiddle-leaf fig tree is a fabolous houseplant! Fiddle Leaf Fig tree gets its name from its big, leathery, fiddle-shaped leaves. It can grow to impressive sizes when given proper care. The foliage is a living piece of art unlike any other. It is among the trendiest indoor plants.
Native to Southern Asia and Australia, this fig plant is a tropical plant and belongs to a genus of trees. If grown outdoors, this plant can reach up to 15m while 3m indoors.
Fiddle-leaf fig plant
This plant is a slow grower and it can take up to 15 years to reach maturity, however it might resemble a tree in just 3 to 4 years. In order to encourage branching the plant should be occasionally trimmed. New branches will emerge around the cut. Make sure to use gloves when cutting as the sap coming out of the plant is toxic.
Fiddle-leaf Fig likes high humidity and a bright spot. As most trees it doesn’t like changes in the environment, drafts or regular repotting. Ficus Lyrata should be allowed to become pot-bound.
Ficus is a pan-tropical genus of trees it can grows much higher in there tropical zone, shrubs and vines occupying a wide variety of ecological niches; most are evergreen, but some deciduous species are endemic to areas outside of the tropics and to higher elevations. Fig species are characterized by their unique inflorescence and distinctive pollination syndrome, which utilizes wasp species belonging to the Agaonidae family for pollination.
