Philodendron Gigas is a popular aroid that stands out with its velvety leaves that can get giant in size! This rare plant can be difficult to find, but it is definitely worth the trouble! Few houseplants are as coveted as the mighty Philodendron Gigas.
This gigantic Philodendron is the envy of many a collector, and for a good reason. The oval leaves emerge in a copper colour with light green veins and turn into a luscious, dark green as they mature. This philodendron variety is native to Panama, and is one of the largest types of philodendrons out there. In the wild, this plant can grow up to 65 feet tall with leaves reaching lengths of 3-4 feet!
A mature specimen is absolutely gorgeous and can add a real tropical vibe to your home. If you’ve managed to get your hands on one, the good news is that it’s not too difficult to keep it happy.
It’s an easy tropical plant that require little care. They thrive in moist soils and grow best when provided with a pole that is mossed or wrapped in burlap, to climb against. It likes a well-drained but moist, rich organic mix. Do not use potting soil or dry sandy soil. To help your new Philodendron grow, fertilisation is needed. Without fertilisation, they will grow very slowly.
