Calathea Roseopicta Dottie, the Rose Painted Calathea, is a species of plant in the family Marantaceae, native to northwest Brazil. It is a clump-forming evergreen perennial growing to 50 cm, very similar looking to Calathea Makoyana. It needs no introduction. It boasts large rounded leaves with contrasting stripes along its veins. The undersides are a striking deep red-purple, leaving no doubt about its tropical credentials. It’s easy-care, air-purifying and a real looker with beautiful foliage.

If the leaves begin to get brown, then it typically means it’s being underwatered or needs a more humid environment. The Rose Painted Calathea leaves will fold up during the dark hours, which reveal the colourful undersides, making them a gorgeous addition to your indoor garden no matter the hour.

Prayer Plant likes diffused, indirect light, in a humid environment so kitchens and bathrooms are ideal along with regular misting and your plant will thrive. Wipe Calathea’s leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust, so that it can breathe properly. This plant is safe around children and pets.

Calathea Plants are tropical plants, often grown as houseplants for their beautiful, brightly coloured, upright, ovate leaves. There are over 300 different types of Calatheas, many being hybrids created by tissue cultures. Indoors, a Calathea is a table plant or short bush that rarely gets bigger than 60cm tall and wide. Flowers, if produced, are white, small and formed in spikes.
